Facilitating Critical Conversations of Equity in Mathematics Education

Fordham University’s Division of Educational Leadership, Administration, and Policy and Southern Westchester BOCES are co-sponsoring a Spring Speaker Series open to current and aspiring school and district leaders in the greater New York City area.
Alesia Mickle Moldavan, Ph.D. will be speaking on “Facilitation Critical Conversations of Equity in Mathematics Education.”
Facilitating opportunities for teachers to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to support equitable mathematics instruction, recognize systems of inequity, and advocate for all learners is imperative for today’s diverse classrooms. This session presents research findings on effective efforts of mathematics educators to engage preservice teachers in critical conversations of equity and implications for teacher supervision and support. Suggestions are discussed for advancing such critical conversations in and beyond the mathematics classroom.
